Courses & Costs - Turbine Rating
A popular option for students seeking a career as a helicopter pilot is a turbine rating on a Bell 206B Jet Ranger. This requires a minimum of 5 flying hours, but most students opt for a 10 hour course:

Bell 206B Jet Ranger (Turbine) Type Rating
    10hrs in Bell 206B Jet RangerC$10,750
    TotalC$10,750

The Jet Ranger type rating does not have to be completed after the 100hr commercial course, but can be completed as part of the 100hr course.

    Commercial License - Piston
    90hrs in Robinson R22C$44,550
    10hrs in Bell 206B Jet RangerC$10,750
80hrs ground school, books and other feesC$700
    TotalC$56,000

    Important Notes
    1. Pilot medical fees on all courses are not included
    2. The hours indicated above are Transport Canada minimums. Students may require longer, particularly for the 30hr private course
    3. It is possible to substitute some or all of the Robinson R22 time with Bell 206B Jet Ranger time, at extra cost, for all courses
    4. Coast Helicopter College recommend that, where Transport Canada requirements allow, flight simulator time be used to satisfy instrument flying requirements. This tends to add C$160-C$400 to the cost, depending on the course, but frees up flight hours for refining flight manoeuvres.
